Rami Malek is an American actor. He is known for his role as computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network television series Mr. Robot (2015–2019), playing opposite Christian Slater. He received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and as Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), for which he won the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and British Academy Film Award for Best Actor. He has received many other accolades, and is the first actor of Egyptian heritage to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. He has appeared in films alongside Christian Bale, Charlize Theron, and Denzel Washington, and he has also worked with TV producers and directors Sam Esmail and Nic Pizzolatto.

Malek’s star began to shine brightly in Hollywood’s night sky when he lent his talent to the critically acclaimed television drama series Mr. Robot, playing the character of Elliot Alderson. The show was conceived by Sam Esmail, a visionary creator who deeply understands the complexity of modern digital cultures. Together, Malek and Esmail began their collaborative journey in 2015. Their partnership redefined the landscape of television, combining intense performances with innovative storytelling to keep audiences on edge until the series concluded in 2019. In 2016, the partnership bore fruit as Malek was awarded his first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, an illustrious recognition acknowledging the depth and power of his performances.

In 2018, Malek paired with visionary director Bryan Singer to tell the story of one of the music industry’s most iconic figures. In the film Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek transformed into Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of the legendary band Queen. The story also revolved around other Queen members—Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon—played by Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joe Mazzello, respectively. The performance won Malek the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2019, firmly establishing him as one of Hollywood’s most captivating actors.

The year 2020 saw Malek add another prominent feather to his cap. Joining forces with director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Malek played the role of Safin in the iconic James Bond franchise’s 25th installment, “No Time to Die.” This collaboration extended his artistic range even further, proving his ability to portray a compelling antagonist opposite Daniel Craig‘s James Bond. The film also starred Lashana Lynch, Léa Seydoux, Naomie Harris, Ana de Armas, Ralph Fiennes, and more. This performance earned Malek a nomination for the Best Supporting Actor at the British Academy Film Awards in 2021.

By 2022, Malek was ready to take on another challenging role, portraying a real-life political activist in The Chicago 7. This film was a collaborative venture with acclaimed director Aaron Sorkin and a star-studded ensemble cast including Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The film’s cast was praised for their collective strength, with Malek’s performance earning him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture in 2023.
