Dua Lipa claims fourth UK number 1 single with 'Dance The Night'
After weeks of sitting in the UK top 10, pop superstar Dua Lipa has claimed her fourth number one single with ‘Dance The Night’, taken from the Barbie movie soundtrack.
This is Dua’s fourth time at the top with ‘Dance The Night’ following in the footsteps of ‘New Rules’, ‘One Kiss’ with Calvin Harris and ‘Cold Heart’ with Elton John. Dua took to socials to celebrate the news by posing with her award and very own Barbie doll.
According to the Official Charts Company, Dua is now one of only six British female solo artists to achieve four UK number one singles. She joins the likes of Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora and Geri Halliwell with four chart toppers a piece, with Cheryl and Jess Glynne having five and seven number ones respectively.
‘Dance The Night’ is taken from the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and is used during the iconic dance party sequence featuring the likes of Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Sharon Rooney, and more.
This week, the song replaces a former soundtrack number one, Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For’ at the top spot (now at number two). Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s ‘Barbie World’ is currently at number nine, with Charli XCX’s ‘Speed Drive’ at 15, with the tracks’ popularity showing no sign of slowing down any time soon.
The UK singles chart is currently experiencing a girl power renaissance, with the top 7 singles all featuring female artists, and many more appearing throughout the top 40. Dua’s number one also marks the first time that a British female soloist has reached the top spot in over 12 months. The last artist who achieved this was Kate Bush, when ‘Running Up That Hill’ went to number one following its appearance on Stranger Things.
