Switzerland Is Set To Bring Some Dirty Dancing To Eurovision 2019 With Luca Hnni And His Song "She

Publish date: 2024-07-12

So many countries have released their Eurovision songs in the last week, determined to get them in before the deadline, tomorrow. Switzerland has managed to surprise us all, including the bookies, by dropping this incredible track, “She Got Me”, by Luca Hänni. He will be jetting off to Tel Aviv, Israel to represent his country at the contest in May.

Deciding to drop the national selection show, Die Entscheidungsshow, Switzerland chose their representative through internal selection, with the help of 120 jury members. Coming out on top was Luca Hänni with his song “She Got Me”.

Luca Hänni is quite the established singer, making his name known back in 2012 when he won season nine of Deutschland sucht den Superstar which is the German version of the Idol franchise; becoming the youngest winner, at age 17, and the first non-German winner.

Since winning the German show, he went on to release a winner’s debut single, titled “Don’t Think About Me” which hit number one in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. His follow-ups have charted fairly well and all four of his studio albums have charted in Switzerland’s top 10 and also made the charts in Germany and Austria. He’s bound to get fan votes from those countries in Eurovision this year, and he is set to gain more international fame when he performs this May.

Now this is the “Fuego” of Eurovision 2019; exotic, club-worthy, and undeniably catchy with a Spanish flair, “She Got Me” is set to do very well at the international contest in Tel Aviv. Luca Hänni impresses with some fired-up vocals that manages to hold meaning to the words he is singing, which isn’t a surprise since he co-wrote the song with Laurell Barker, Mac Frazer, Jon Hällgren, and Lukas Hällgren.

As for the music video, it’s a narrative visual with a performance piece included within the storyline. We watch a woman enter the exclusive club with her two friends and she catches Luca Hänni’s eyes. From then on, he tries to impress her from his singing to his dancing as she teases him through dance sequences and flirty solo scenes. She sure has got him.

We have no doubt that this will do well on Eurovision if the staging is somewhat similar to the music video. Switzerland hasn’t had the best run in recent years and has failed to make the Grand Final six times, over the last seven years – not that they haven’t had great songs. Last year, the country was represented by ZiBBZ – who we managed to interview before the contest – with their song “Stones”.
